Lasik for USMC soldiers?

How would a USMC soldier (enlisted or officer) go about getting Lasik or laser eye correction?

Your commander has nothing to do with approval with you getting the surgery. The only thing that might hold it up will be if you are getting ready to deploy in which you will have to wait until you come back from the deployment.

You must go to your medical clinic. And the doctor there will determine weather or not you can get the Lasik surgery. Once it has been approved by the doctor then you go to your CO and put in the leave days for it once the surgery date has been made.

I know quite a few soldiers who have gotten Lasik.

Tricare does not pay for civilian providers to do LASIK. You’d have to talk to your primary care provider about getting a referral to a military treatment facility that does the procedure. You’d then be put on a waiting list, and when an appointment opened, you’d be notified. If the facility is not nearby the base you are stationed at, that is, somewhere in another state, which is very likely, since only a very select few do procedures like that, you would have to take personal leave time and arrange your own transportation and lodging. Just talk to your primary physician about it and he/she should be able to give you all the details.
